Made with Xara © Lorem ipsum dolor 2010 © Lorem ipsum dolor 2010 © Arkansas Pathology Associates 2010 Arkansas Pathology Associates, P.A., offers molecular pathology testing for Herpes Simplex Virus I/II, Group B Strep, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).  All of our molecular testing is performed utilizing PCR (polymerase chain reaction), which gives the best sensitivity and specificity available.  We utilize the ThinPrep® vials for all the above testing.  M4 vials and genital swabs may also be used for HSV I/II, Group B Strep, Chlamydia, and Gonorrhea.    Human Papilloma Virus testing involves the amplification of highly conserved region of the genomes of all types of HPV’s known to infect the respiratory or genital tract tissue.  This method detects high risk types of HPV, specifically types 16 and 18.  Again, this technology utilizes Hologic’s ThinPrep® vial, which is also used for Pap tests.  The turnaround time for molecular testing is very rapid.  HPV tests are usually signed out in 24-48 hours.  Group B Strep specimens are also signed out in three days unless the patient goes into labor.  In that case, the test can be signed out within a few hours of notification to the laboratory.  Chlamydia and Gonorrhea tests are signed out in one day, and Herpes Simplex Virus I/II has a turnaround time of five days.  Any specimens that need to be retested will have a slightly longer turn around time.
